Itinerary
From the meeting point, we will take the new Etna cable car, we will reach the altitude of 2500 m above sea level. Here our trekking will begin which will allow us to cross a lunar landscape, made up of the recent lava flows emitted during the last eruptions of 2001/2002 and we will the flows that from the south-east crater invaded a vast area, causing damage to the tourist accommodation facilities at high altitude. We will pass next to the lava from the last eruption in December 2023.
Then we will visit an eruptive fracture, a lava flow channel, we will reach an effusive crater which generated very important flows, where hot spots with fumaroles still persist. We will continue to visit a first explosive crater and visit yet another located around an altitude of 3000.
From this point, if weather conditions permit, we will have the opportunity to observe Calabria, the mountains and the interior of Sicily, therefore the entire eastern Sicilian coast.
We will cross the volcanic desert to observe from above the Bove valley and the important depression created by an earthquake.
We will once again flank an explosive crater and return to the cable car for a comfortable return. It will be a fantastic journey through geology and volcanology, admiring the active craters of the Bocca Nuova, Voragine, the North East crater and the South East crater at a distance of
safety.
The excursion to the craters of Etna, given its demanding nature, is suitable for people accustomed to demanding journeys and is categorically not recommended for heart patients, asthmatics, and untrained people.
