A few steps from the most characteristic paths of the Etna park, there is Villa del Gelso. The UNESCO heritage park with its skiing and hiking slopes offers a strategic position to the villa located a few kilometers from Puntalazzo where you can find food shops. The Villa, a silent witness to the history of the island, is immersed in the silence of the centuries-old trees and is guarded by a large and wonderful olive tree planted in 1816, the year in which Ferdinand I was crowned and the Bourbon kingdom of the Two Sicilies began.
The property is founded on the very solid basaltic rock, originating from the eruption of 1030, not far from the extinct crater, which in 1651 created the Scorciavacca ski slopes and a few steps from the ancient Norman road, still visible, which connected the village of Riposto to Sanctuary of Vena (monastery of S.Andrea).
The building develops around a large centenary mulberry tree which, dating back to the time of Ferdinand II, was a source of sustenance for the villa.
Villa Gelso has a quiet playground where children can play in peace; here stands a wonderful example of minicucco (bacolaro, Celtis Etnensis) planted around 1865 in memory of the celebration of the miracle of San Leonardo.
Inside the location there is a salt water swimming pool designed to not generate allergies and maintain the outline and, guarantee of a breathtaking view of Etna.
On the upper floor of the Villa you will find a terrace from which you can enjoy the light of the moon reflecting on the Ionian sea in the cool, lying in the shade of the camellias.
